In an effort to reduce repeat DUI offenders, Denver County has instituted a new Sobriety Court.
This Court will incorporate an interdisciplinary approach to treating repeat offenders with a combination of intensive supervision, individualized treatment and strict sanctions. The offender’s progress will be closely monitored through weekly judicial reviews and they will receive incentives for doing well or penalized for non-compliance. Participants will also receive the benefit of long-term, rigorous treatment designed to specifically address the core issues suffered by repeat DUI offenders. The hope is that the Sobriety Court will drastically reduce the number of repeat DUI offenders in the County. Currently, at least 20 percent of Denver’s DUI defendants are repeat offenders.
